Swapping controllers is a standard diagnostic procedure used to determine whether an electric scooter issue is caused by a faulty controller or a damaged motor.
This method is commonly applied after basic checks confirm that power, wiring, and drive mode settings are normal.

In this guide, we explain how to safely swap front and rear controllers on dual motor electric scooters, perform controller self-learning, and correctly interpret the results.
Following the steps in the correct order is critical—incorrect operation may cause controller damage.

⚠️ This guide focuses on controller swap operations only.
If your scooter motor is not spinning, please first follow the full diagnostic guide here:

When Should You Swap Electric Scooter Controllers?

Controller swapping is recommended when:

  • One motor does not work and basic checks are completed

  • You need to confirm controller vs motor failure

  • Error codes or resistance tests suggest a controller issue

📌 This procedure applies to dual motor electric scooters.

Safety Notes Before Starting (Important)

Before performing any controller swap:

  • Turn off the scooter

  • Lift the scooter securely

  • Do NOT press the throttle or brake during learning

  • Acceleration during learning may burn the controller

⚠️ Always follow the steps exactly as described.

Step 1: Swap Phase Wires and Hall Sensor Wires

The first step is to swap the phase wires and Hall sensor wires between the front and rear controllers.

Connector Differences by Model

  • T104 / T108
Phase wire connectors differ in appearance

  • T107Pro / T108Pro
Phase wire connectors differ slightly in installation

📌 The swap procedure is the same for all models.

Step 2: Perform Controller Self-Learning

After swapping the phase and Hall wires, perform controller self-learning.

  1. Locate the white learning connectors

  2. Connect the two white connectors belonging to the same controller

⚠️ Do NOT touch the throttle or brake during this process

  1. Power on the scooter

  2. Wait for the learning process to complete

  3. Disconnect the white connectors after learning

Step 3: Observe Wheel Movement (Do NOT Accelerate)

After learning is complete:

  • Turn on the scooter

  • Enable dual motor mode

  • Do NOT accelerate

Observe the wheel that previously did not rotate.

How to Interpret the Result

  • ✅ Wheel rotates normally
    → The controller is faulty

  • ❌ Wheel still does not rotate
    → The motor is faulty

📌 This result allows you to clearly identify the faulty component.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Pressing the throttle during learning

  • Connecting learning plugs from different controllers

  • Skipping the learning step

  • Accelerating during observation

Any of these mistakes may lead to controller failure.

When to Contact After-Sales Support

If you are unsure about the result or the operation:

📧 service@haloknights.com

Please provide:

  • A clear video of the swap process

  • The learning step

  • Wheel behavior after learning

This helps technicians confirm the diagnosis.

Final Notes

Controller swapping is a diagnostic method, not a repair by itself.
Once the faulty component is identified, replace only the confirmed defective part to avoid unnecessary replacements.
