If your dual motor electric scooter suddenly has one wheel not spinning—or both motors stop working—don’t panic.
Motor issues are one of the most common electric scooter problems, and in many cases, the cause is not the motor itself, but the controller, communication cable, or drive mode connection.

This technical guide explains how to diagnose motor not working issues step by step, based on real-world after-sales experience with dual motor electric scooters.
You’ll learn how to identify whether the problem comes from:

  • The front motor or rear motor

  • The controller

  • Communication errors (E10)

  • Drive mode cables

⚠️ This guide is for basic diagnosis only. Please follow instructions carefully and do not accelerate the scooter during testing.

Common Motor Issues on Dual Motor Electric Scooters

On dual motor scooters, motor failure usually appears in one of the following situations:

  • ❌ Front wheel not spinning (front motor not working)

  • ❌ Rear wheel not spinning (rear motor not working)

  • ❌ Both front and rear wheels not spinning

Each situation requires a different troubleshooting method, which we explain below.

Step 1: Check for Error Code E10 on the Display

Before touching any hardware, turn on the scooter and check the display.

What is Error Code E10?

E10 = Communication Receive Error

This error indicates a communication issue between the controller and other electrical components.

If E10 Appears:

  • Front wheel not spinning + E10
    👉 Replace the front controller

  • Rear wheel not spinning + E10
    👉 Replace the rear controller

📌 In these cases, the motor itself is usually not faulty.

Step 2: No Error Code? Check Wheel Resistance by Hand

If no error code is displayed, continue with a manual inspection.

How to Check:

  1. Turn off the scooter

  2. Lift the scooter safely

  3. Rotate the affected wheel by hand

Results & Meaning:

  • Wheel has resistance (does not spin smoothly):

    • Front wheel → Front controller issue

    • Rear wheel → Rear controller issue
      👉 Replace the corresponding controller

  • Wheel spins freely and smoothly:
    👉 Continue to Step 3

Step 3: Check Dual / Single Drive Mode Cables

If the wheel spins normally by hand:

  1. Open the battery compartment

  2. Locate the dual/single drive switch cables

    • Blue and green connectors coming from the main cable (labeled as 5 in the diagram below).

  1. Check if any connector is loose

  2. Reconnect firmly and test again

📌 Many “motor not spinning” issues are caused by loose drive mode connectors.

Step 4: Swap Controllers to Identify Controller vs Motor Issues

If cables are secure and the issue remains, proceed with controller swapping.

⚠️ Important Safety Warning

  • Do NOT accelerate during testing

  • Only turn on the scooter and observe wheel movement

Controller Swap Procedure:

  1. Swap phase wires and Hall sensor wires between front and rear controllers
    📷

  2. Perform controller self-learning

    • Connect the white learning connectors on the same controller
      📷

  3. Turn on the scooter

  4. Enable dual motor mode

  5. Do NOT twist the throttle

How to Judge the Result:

  • Front wheel issue:

    • Wheel rotates → Front controller faulty

    • Wheel does not rotate → Front motor faulty

  • Rear wheel issue:

    • Wheel rotates → Rear controller faulty

    • Wheel does not rotate → Rear motor faulty

When Both Front and Rear Motors Are Not Working

If both wheels do not spin, follow the steps below.

Case 1: Error Code E10 Appears

👉 Replace:

  • Front controller

  • Rear controller

  • Controller center communication cable

Case 2: No Error Code, Wheels Have Resistance

👉 Replace:

  • Front controller

  • Rear controller

  • Controller center cable

Case 3: No Resistance on Either Wheel

  1. Turn on the scooter

  2. Swap the white learning connectors for the same controller

Result Interpretation:

  • Wheels rotate → Rear controller is faulty

  • Wheels still do not rotate → Both controllers are faulty

Please include:

  • A clear video of the issue

  • Display error code (if any)

  • Test steps already performed

This helps our technical team diagnose the problem faster.

Final Notes

  • Most motor issues are controller-related, not motor failures

  • Always follow safety instructions

  • Never accelerate during diagnostic testing

This guide applies to dual motor electric scooters, including high-power off-road models.
